Fire severity influences on wildlife

In collaboration with movement ecologist Tal Avgar and graduate student Megan Whetzel, we are working on a project to assess wildlife space use and foraging behavior in fire footprints in Utah. We are using GPS collar data and camera traps to investigate the influence of fire severity on elk behavior and habitat use.

In my research group, we are interested in advancing research about the ecological role of fire, how climate, fire and vegetation are related over time and space, and how management can promote the beneficial aspects of fire and minimize the negative consequences.
